Tell us about your business, what you do, and you serve.

Hayes Automotive is a family-owned & operated business serving Longmont, CO, Boulder, CO, Loveland, CO, & surrounding communities. We’re committed to your total satisfaction through high quality automotive service & hometown customer service.

What inspired you to start your business?

I’ve wanted to be a business owner since I was 7 years old. I’ve started numerous small businesses when I was younger. None of them were very practical for a 7 year old but I knew one day I would own my own successful business.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love connecting with our amazing customers. Everyday is a different challenge and we get to problem solve and over come unique situations. We love to solve the problem and make the customer feel good!

If you could share one piece of advice with an aspiring business owner, what would it be?

Stay focused and stay flexible. Not everything is going to go your way in this crazy world. Everything changes from day to day. You can either adapt to stay up with the change or stay the same and get left behind.

How do you measure success?

Of course many people are going to say Gross/Net Profit. However, we feel setting employee goals and following up regularly with performance evaluations make the difference. Our team is able to track and adapt to new goals throughout each year. When you have an amazing team that cares about your business and works hard towards those goals, as the owner you get to compensate your team and benefit from a job well done.

What is the most important thing about your industry right now, and what changes do you forsee for your industry in the future?

Vehicles change every year! The most important thing we can do is train. We require at least 10 hours of training per year. Many of our employees exceed 40 hours of training. Vehicles aren’t like they used to be where you can sit on the front bumper and reach everything in the engine bay. They are compact and computerized for better fuel economy. Performing simple diagnostics now require you to utilize specialty diagnostic equipment. There has been a huge push over the last few years for electric vehicles. Although many people aren’t fully onboard with getting an electric vehicle I feel they are here to stay.
