Q: Tell us about your business! What do you do and who do you serve?
A: Blinds Couture specializes in custom window coverings within the residential and commercial markets in Denver, Colorado. Our concierge approach allows us to serve our clients at the highest level: we offer a variety of products and services to accommodate any level of investment. Our mission is to build a client relationship for LIFE!
Q: What inspired you to start your business?
A: Fabric and textile! I came from the fashion design industry designing and creating custom gowns, bridal, and formal wear. The company has grown organically over the past 17 years, mainly due to my love of business, client relationships, and my team!
Q: What do you love most about what you do?
A: Building relationships with our clients and trusted referral partners and growing my leadership skills to be the absolute best for my team!
Q: If you could share one piece of advice with an aspiring business owner, what would it be?:
A: Buckle up, this isn’t a journey for anyone who’s not gritty, tenacious, and hungry. You must constantly take extreme ownership of everything and every outcome. You need to reflect and continue to invest in your personal and professional development because business ownership can feel soul-crushing at times, and it’s up to you to be your BEST self for your company, which takes discipline and grit. It can be lonely at the top, so find others who can relate. It’s not your team’s responsibility to make you feel loved and appreciated; you have to get your needs met outside of your organization. Lastly, it’s also super FUN! I love the ride and choose it year after year. I am stronger because of what I’ve been through!
Q: How do you measure success?:
A: In two ways: Feeling and Metrics.
I’m constantly asking “How is momentum, how’s morale? How’s the team working together? What’s the pulse within the culture?” If these topics aren’t aligned, the numbers SHOW it. It’s key to measure the “feeling” and “pulse” of the people.
The numbers flow with momentum; we measure weekly activities and what gets in the way of those activities to ensure numbers are actualized. We have three focuses this year which include: increase sales volume, lose less deals, and reduce mistakes. Everything we do on a weekly basis is aligned with these three goals. We also selected two words of the year to guide our behaviors: accountable and proactive. These words are feathered into all company communication!
Q: What is the most important thing about your industry right now, and what changes do you forsee for your industry in the future?:
A: The industry will have a federal mandate that will eliminate the use of corded products in June 2024. There will be a huge shift in the market due to this change – motorized and cordless products will be the focus. Commercial is still allowing the use of corded shades.
