Tell us about your business, what you do, and you serve.:
Through training and coaching based on principles from neurology, psychology, and biology, MasterSpeaker Lab supports growth-minded leaders and teams in communicating with presence as they navigate change and guide their communities toward their vision of the future.
We train communicators not just for one stellar performance on a stage but for consistent and upgraded communication skills in body language, meeting structure, presentation strategy, navigating surprises, asking questions, listening, and building rapport.
Our Vision is for every leader—with or without a title—to have consistent access to tools, support, and skills for impactful presentation and navigating relationships with leadership presence.
What inspired you to start your business?:
Ten years ago, when I volunteered to support TEDx speakers on the stage, I saw that their questions about leadership reached beyond the spotlight as they faced their teams, interpersonal challenges, the public, and their own doubts. I created MasterSpeaker Lab as a refuge where they could be themselves, get creative about their future, and grow.
What do you love most about what you do?:
There are three points along a leader’s speakership journey that I experience as sublime:
1) When they connect with their vision of what they want to do in the world
2) When they overcome the imposter thoughts in their mind to show up and talk about their vision and
3) When they connect with the people around them (whether an individual or a crowd), they all see, feel, and are inspired by that vision.
If you could share one piece of advice with an aspiring business owner, what would it be?:
Slow down. Instead of telling your people what you see is the right answer, get curious about their experiences, their own wishes, and their reality. When the people around you feel seen and heard, you can more clearly shape your words to reach them, and they feel more trust in what you say.
How do you measure success?:
Some combination of financial size, client roster, and emotional impact that I’m still discovering.
What is the most important thing about your industry right now, and what changes do you forsee for your industry in the future?:
Two things:
1) Storytelling. There has been a huge shift recently in awareness of the power and importance of stories. As recently as ten years ago, this was a taboo word. Now, the companies that know principles, frameworks, and tools of stories are cutting through the noise not only in the marketplace but also in their audience’s brains.
2) Brain-based practices. The technology of recent decades has given us an unprecedented understanding of how we all “tick.” By learning some basics of human functioning, I see teams more smoothly manage challenges, build more trusting relationships with their clients, and even uptick their productivity.
